         March 2023

Dear Asbury Park High School's Blue Bishop Community,

As we prepare to end Marking Period 3 on March 31st, we are well underway with our preparations for the 2023-2024 school year. We have exciting programs coming to APHS as well as updates to our buildings & grounds to further support student learning.

The Dream Academy Early College Application for rising 9th graders has been released and will be open until March 21st, 2023. Students and families can learn more about our cohort dual-enrollment program that partners with Brookdale Community College, Stockton University, and NJIT by visiting the Dream Academy's new website. In addition to welcoming applications for the 2024 Cohort, we are excited to announce that we will also be opening 3 additional seats in the Dream Academy 10th Grade cohort. Current APHS 9th graders should see their school counselor for more information about applying.

During the February Board of Education meeting, the Asbury Park Board approved Asbury Park High School to found a new Career-Technical Education (CTE) program for Cosmetology. Over the summer, we will be working to update our facilities to create a lab space for this exciting program. Like our Dream Academy Early College Program, the Cosmetology Program will operate with a cohort model. The founding 9th grade class application will open in April.

Work is underway to complete remodeling to create an updated lab space for our Life Skills program that serves our special education students in developing their career-readiness skills. We look forward to expanding our Blue Bishop Café program in this new space.

Our APHS teachers & staff are continuing the work the started last year to bring a Structured Learning Experiences (SLE) program to our school community next year. We are exploring community partners and developing our scope and sequence for this career-readiness program that provides the opportunity for general and special education students to get hands-on working experience while earning high school credit.

Finally, we are excited to welcome Dr. Rosania to our APHS team as our new teacher for the Allied Health CTE program. He comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge working professionally in his own private practice as a chiropractor as well as teaching as an adjunct professor at several colleges and universities teaching nursing and health science courses. He will be working with our current 12th graders as they finish our the Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification as well as planning the scope and sequence for each course we will offer in the 2023-2024 school year.

We have a lot to look forward to at Asbury Park High School and we are celebrating small success stories every single day on our pathway to Building a Brighter Future for our students and community.

Yours in education,

B2020
